IFRS-International Financial Reporting Standards Workshop
Course Description
This 2 day course offers an opportunity for Finance Staff, to learn how the IFRS changes have resulted in a different approach to accounting and how to apply them. Along with improving understanding of how to account for various financial instruments as set out in IAS39 and FAS133, this course will also take you through IFRS and its requirements, applications and comparisons.
Learning Objectives
- Course participants will learn how to put IFRS principles into practice:
- Analyse, interpret and understand IFRS financial statements.
- Differentiate IFRS prepared financial statements from GAAP prepared financial statements
- Understand the IFRS requirements for 005 and 2006
- Transition from GAAP to IFRS
- Compare US GAAP with IFRS
- Apply IFRS on financial instruments, foreign currencies, tangible assets
- Delegates will gain a thorough understanding of the current rules with respect to derivative accounting.
- Delegates will learn to apply these rules in practice.
- Delegates will be taken through international and US accounting standards and see how they have been translated into company accounts
- Delegates will also look at the disclosure for derivatives that major banks are currently using - taking HSBC and a couple of other banks as examples
- Delegates will learn how to account for derivative products such as:
- Foreign Exchange
- Options
- Futures
- Swaps
- Forwards
- Briefly look at how to value derivatives products
- Hedge accounting
